Well, Why Not?

Life's funny.
Not always in a "ha ha" kind of funny way.
I wish I could say my life was the "ha ha" kind of funny right now.

This morning, my computer was fine.
It informed me that I had three new updates so I thought today would be a good day for that.
Well, something happened during the updates because now
my computer doesn't work properly.
I can't open anything off my desktop.
The icons on my desktop can't be dragged.
My dock is gone (For non-Mac people, that's where you store your icons for applications.)
I can no longer open my Microsoft office or iTunes directly.
For a second I thought I lost all my music because iTunes wouldn't open either but I dug around and figured how to open it (thank heavens!)
I just need to get cd's tomorrow to backup my library.

I've spent all day backing up my priceless family pictures that I have saved on my computer.
I haven't practiced what I've preached.
None (NONE) of my pictures for the past 4 years have been printed out.
It's all saved on my hard drive.
Stupid?
Uh, Yeah!
Luckily, (I'm thanking the heavens!) nothing happened to them.
My external hard drive doesn't work so I transferred them over to an online storage source.
I've emailed everyone's documents saved on the computer to them.
The only thing I'm trying to figure out is my videos.
They've all been burnt to dvd's but I really like to keep the raw copy but it doesn't look like I'll be able to do that.
I'm sad but considering what I could have lost,
It's not too bad.

I'm hoping, once I have everything backed up, I'll be able to restore my computer. The last thing I need right now is spend money to fix this.
At least we can still get onto the Internet.

I can tell you, that I'm going to start printing out my over 4,000 pictures little by little so at least I know I have them for sure.

What a royal pain in the patootie!

Cari,
it's been awhile since I've used a PC, but there is something called go back, or restore that you can do and it should take your computer back to a specific time ( like an hour before you downloaded updates).
Maybe worth a try. I hope everything works out. We lost YEARS of photos once on an old computer. Heartbreaking.

Sue is right, Cari. On a PC you just need to do a restore, however, it sounds like you have a Mac, right?

If so, look online for helps discussion forums about the problem you are having.

1. If it IS a PC, click the "Start" on the bottom right.

2. Go to "All Programs."

3. Go to "Accessories."

4. Go to "System tools."

5. From there pick "System Restore."

5. It should give you options to restore your computer back from anywhere to a day to about a month ago. I'd try using one just previous to when you were having issues.

Good luck!

But wait...

According to my dad macs are perfect and nothing wrong ever happens to them, right?

Just kidding. We are still battling with our computer downstairs, so I know your pain. I am so so sorry :(

By the way, the word verification for this comment is "jaccuzi" which for some reason makes me giggle.
