2012
Oh, 2012, I have high hopes for you!
I have a whole lot to be thankful for when thinking of 2011,
but boy oh boy... it was a difficult year.
2012 will bring a lot of exciting events in our family.
Scott is preparing his mission papers as we speak and will be leaving in early summer.
Emma is preparing to be baptized in the Spring.
We anticipate many home improvements.
Max will be starting Middle School and Cole his senior year.
Cole will be working on ACT/SAT tests, college admissions, and scholarship applications.
Jake will (hopefully) be getting his grant to develop ethical standards for the
Mathematical Biology research he's been helping with.
(Don't even ask me to explain. Talk to Jake. It's SO over my head!)
Elisabeth will be starting her Masters degree.
Yep, lots of exciting things on the horizon!
A new year means a new beginning.
There are so many things I need to work on in my life. Some things are a little out of control right now and I'll be honest, it gets a little overwhelming to think about improving things.
We had an excellent lesson today in Relief Society. There is no doubt that it was inspired because it was exactly what I needed to hear.
When thinking about how I can work on the things I need to this year,
I've decided to take heed to the counsel of President Gordon B. Hinckley (I sure miss him!):
"Each of us can do a little better than we have been doing. We can be a little more kind. We can be a little more merciful. We can be a little more forgiving. We can put behind us our weaknesses of the past and go forth with new energy and increased resolution to improve the world about us, in our homes, in our places of employment, in our social activities."
I don't have to be perfect.
I can just try every day to do a little better.
Small changes can make a big difference!
And if some days I fail,
tomorrow's another day to
do a little better.
So, with this realization,
I welcome 2012 with open arms!

i love this post cari---i have learned over and over again (yet, i still need the lesson for some strange reason!) that when i throw away the attempt for everything to be "perfect", i get so much more done, feel better about things and am all around happier!
i'm looking forward to a great 2012!
You are an inspiration, Cari! Our families will be having a lot of the same experiences in 2012. :)
Happy 2012! It sounds like a wonderful year is in store for you!
